Software Security—Theories and Systems. Lecture Notes in Computer Science. Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg. CiteSeerX Formerly a secretive project under the early code name "Dimitri", [1] Project Milo was unveiled at the Electronic Entertainment Expo E3 in a demonstration for Kinect , as a "controller-free" entertainment initiative for the Xbox based on depth-sensing and pattern recognition technologies. In later interviews, Molyneux began to refer to the project as "Project X".

During their press briefing at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June , Lionhead's parent company Microsoft unveiled Kinect, then known as Project Natal, during which it featured a presentation clip from Molyneux demonstrating a woman naturally interacting with a virtual character, referred to as "Milo.

In the game, players would interact with a year-old child Milo or Millie, selected at the start and a dog named Kate, playing through a story. According to Molyneux, work on the Kinect-specific elements started in December Milo has an AI structure that responds to human interactions, such as spoken word, gestures, or predefined actions in dynamic situations. The game relies on a procedural generation system which is constantly updating a built-in "dictionary" that is capable of matching key words in conversations with inherent voice-acting clips to simulate lifelike conversations.

However, the game was not present at Microsoft's E3 press briefing the following year. Further confusion arose later in the month with a statement by Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg stating that the game was not a product they were planning to bring to market, but was more of an internal tech demo.

Molyneux went on to hint at difficulties in getting Microsoft to see Milo as a full game. Molyneux said "The biggest challenge for us is convincing people Microsoft what we're doing is actually going to work, is going to reach a new audience, is going to be an idea that people love.

Players can make crucial decisions in Milo's life, or smaller ones such as squashing a snail or not. During the conference it was shown that Milo can be taught how to skip stones. Those 2, engineers worked in Source Depot on Friday, went home for the weekend and came back Monday morning to a new experience based on Git.

Much to my surprise, quite honestly, it went very smoothly and engineers were productive from day one. We had some issues, no doubt. We had it resolved within a couple of days and overall, sentiment that week was much better than we expected. One of the ways we measured our success was by doing surveys of the engineering team.

Two weeks into the rollout, our first survey resulted in:. Of course, half the team was still on Source Depot and half had moved to Git so we looked at combined activity over time. In the chart below you can see the big drop in Source Depot checkins and the big jump in Git pull requests but overall the sum of the two stayed reasonable consistent.

We felt that the data showed that the system was working and there were no major blockers. On April 22nd, we onboarded the next wave of about 1, engineers.

And then on May 12th we onboarded another Each successive wave followed roughly the same pattern and we now have about 3, of the roughly 4, Windows engineers on Git. The scale the system is operating at is really amazing. But, the top issue is performance, and I want to drill into that. We track the performance of some of the key Git operations.

The fact that most of them are less than 20 seconds is a huge step but it still sucks if you have to wait seconds for everything. When we first rolled it out, the results were much better.
